Garrett Alberson collects pair of Top-5 finishes in final East Bay Winternationals
Garrett Alberson was one of 75 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series competitors at East Bay Raceway Park (Tampa, FL) on Tuesday afternoon after Monday's event was postponed due to rain showers.
To kick off the final East Bay Winternationals, Alberson qualified ninth-quickest before grabbing the final A-Main transfer spot in his heat. For the first feature of the week, Garrett recorded a 14th-place finish.
Stopping the clock runner-up in his group on Wednesday, Garrett earned a fifth-row starting spot after a second-place run in his heat. With a $7,000 payday up for grabs, Alberson was running inside the Top-5 when he over-rotated on a restart and made heavy contact with Brandon Overton which ended his night.
On Thursday afternoon, Alberson charged forward from third to win his heat race which earned him the fifth-place starting position. With the first five-figure payday of the weekend on the line, Garrett battled for a Top-3 position and wound up third when the checkered flag flew. He trailed Jimmy Owens and Jonathan Davenport while Ricky Thornton Jr. and Hudson O'Neal completed the Top-5.
With Monday's make-up event spanning multiple days, Alberson grabbed the final transfer spot in his heat and recorded an 18th-place finish.
Locking into Friday's $12,000-to-win A-Main in his heat race, Garrett marched from the sixth-row to another Top-5 finish in fourth.
For the East Bay Winternationals finale, Alberson would sit on the second-row of the 50-lap feature. Running inside the Top-5, Garrett was caught in a wreck after a competitor spun in front of him. After going to the tail end of the field, Alberson rallied to finish 15th.
